Group Dance Lesson Etiquette
Dance Class Etiquette
Dance is all about connection, rhythm, and respect. Whether you’re dancing with a partner you came with or
rotating partners in class, these guidelines help create a fun, comfortable experience for everyone.
Respect Your Partner
- Be courteous and kind—everyone is here to learn and enjoy.
- Avoid unsolicited feedback unless you’re asked. Let the instructor guide corrections.
- Maintain appropriate physical boundaries and hygiene.
Partner Rotation
- Most classes include partner rotation to help everyone learn to adapt and connect.
- Rotating partners builds social confidence and improves your lead/follow skills.
- If you prefer to stay with your own partner, just let the instructor know—no pressure!
Hygiene & Presentation
- Wear clean, comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for dancing.
- Fresh breath and light fragrance go a long way—please be mindful of personal hygiene.
- Avoid sharp jewelry or accessories that could snag or scratch.
Consent & Comfort
- Always ask before initiating a dance outside of class exercises.
- If something feels uncomfortable, speak up or step away—your comfort matters.
- Respect when someone chooses not to rotate.
Attitude Is Everything
- Stay positive, patient, and open to learning.
- Celebrate progress—yours and others’—and keep the vibe uplifting.
- Remember: the goal is connection, not perfection.
